Hollow Metal Doors
Supply, Installation & Replacement
Fire-rated, secure, and built to take a beating. We supply, install, and replace hollow metal doors and frames for the hardest-working openings in your building.
What Are Hollow Metal Doors?
Hollow metal doors are commercial doors fabricated from steel face sheets over an internal core, hung in matching steel frames. They are the standard for openings that demand durability, security, and fire resistance: stairwells, mechanical rooms, loading docks, back-of-house corridors, and exterior service entrances. Stanley Schultze & Co. supplies, installs, repairs, and replaces hollow metal doors and frames for commercial and industrial buildings across Louisville and the Greater Kentucky area.

Why Hollow Metal Doors Matter for Your Facility
Hollow metal openings do the unglamorous work of a building. They secure the perimeter after hours, contain fire in rated corridors and stairwells, absorb cart and forklift traffic at service entrances, and stand up to weather at exterior openings. When one fails, the consequences are rarely cosmetic: a rusted-out exterior door is a security hole, a sprung fire door is a code violation, and a racked frame can take the whole opening out of service.
Steel doors also fail differently than other commercial doors. Rust at the bottom rail, impact damage from carts and vehicles, frames rusted or racked out of square, and hinges torn loose from the reinforcement are the common patterns. Some of this is repairable in place; some of it calls for replacement. Knowing which is which, and installing the replacement plumb, square, and correctly anchored, is where experience matters. A poorly set frame will fight every door and hinge you put in it for the life of the opening.
Stanley Schultze & Co. has installed and replaced hollow metal openings across Kentucky for decades, in everything from single-door swaps to full-building packages. We handle rated and non-rated openings, welded and knock-down frames, and installations in masonry, stud, and existing-wall conditions.
Our Hollow Metal Door Services
From a single damaged stairwell door to complete door and frame packages for new construction, we handle the full scope of hollow metal work across Louisville and Kentucky.
Hollow Metal Door Replacement
When a steel door is rusted through, bent by impact, or sprung beyond adjustment, we replace it with a properly specified new door: correct gauge, core type, rating, and prep for your existing or new hardware. Most single-door replacements are completed in one visit.
Steel Frame Installation and Replacement
The frame is the foundation of the opening. We install welded and knock-down frames in new and existing walls, replace rusted or racked frames, and re-anchor loose frames so doors hang true and latch reliably.
Fire-Rated Doors and Frames
Stairwells, corridors, and hazardous-area openings require labeled assemblies. We supply and install fire-rated hollow metal doors and frames, maintain label integrity during installation, and pair them with listed hardware so the entire opening carries its rating.
Exterior and Service Entrance Doors
Loading docks, utility rooms, and rear exits take weather and abuse year-round. We install insulated exterior doors with proper thresholds, sweeps, and weatherstripping, and we address the rust and drainage issues that killed the old door so the new one lasts.
Fire Door Compliance
Fire-rated openings are only compliant when every element works together: labeled door, labeled frame, listed hardware, self-closing and self-latching function, and legal clearances. During installation and repair, we verify the complete assembly, not just the part we touched. If your facility is preparing for a fire-door inspection, we can survey your rated openings and correct deficiencies before they become citations.
Our Hollow Metal Door Work
We have installed hollow metal openings in schools, hospitals, manufacturing plants, warehouses, office buildings, and municipal facilities throughout the region, from one-for-one replacements on emergency calls to coordinated multi-opening packages on renovation projects. Whatever the setting, the standard is the same: plumb, square, rated where required, and swinging freely on the day we leave and for years after.
